Cats

“Grandpa”

grandpa1

Acrylic on hardboard.

His name is actually Samson but once you get to know him he becomes Grampa. He’s 17 and in failing health but he is the unquestioned leader of his family of 12 cats who who were rescued when their owner died. The love of his life is Peaches, aka Gramma, who is 12 and who cleans his ears and tells him when it’s time to eat or go outside. Grampa is our Wal Mart greeter, welcoming everybody to his building and escorting them wherever they want to go inside. He ambles about very slowly but still manages to always be underfoot no matter where you are.  To meet this magnificent old man is all it takes to fall head over heels in love with him.  He’s a wise and wonderful old soul.

“Popper”

popper1

Conte Pastel Crayons on Canvas.

Popper is the cat with the Marty Feldman eyes. He always looks startled out of his wits and the markings on his nose exaggerate the apparent size of his nostrils, leaving one with the impression that he’s a living breathing cartoon. He loves to run and spends a good part of his day in the outside cattery playing with his friends who don’t seem to notice his clownish appearance.

Oil on Canvas.

"Cat" was found in the Los Angeles river at 2:00 in the morning about seven years ago.

“Pipkin”

pipkin2

Acrylic on Harboard.

“Pipkin” is definatly a “special” cat.  She lives in her own special area at best friends, away from the other cats because she has a little bit of a temper towards other animals and people.  She has the most gentle disposition when you approach her and invites you to pet her with those magnificent eyes, but watch out -  heavy leather gloves and boots and a face shield are required if you plan on entering her cage.
